CentOS is an Enterprise Linux distribution based on a rebuild of the freely available sources from Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The rebuild process strives to remove encumbered trademarked images and make other minimal changes as to the binary update network, but should generally perform identically to the upstream's product, even to matching behaviors considered un-addressed bugs. Each CentOS version is supported for up to 10 years (by means of security updates -- the duration of the support interval has varied over time as the release policy as to upstream Source RPM changes). A new CentOS version is released approximately every 2 years and each CentOS version is periodically updated (roughly every 6 months) to support newer hardware. This results in a secure, low-maintenance, reliable, predictable and reproducible Linux environment.

DANTE, the "Deutschsprachige Anwendervereinigung TeX e.V.", has been founded on April 14, 1989 in Heidelberg, Germany. The principal aim of the association is to encourage advice and cooperation among German language TeX users. This includes consulting via WWW, electronic mail and usual letter mail concerning purchase, implementation and user problems of TeX, distribution of software for members and information about all what's going on in the TeX world. But this is not the only intention. The user group examines proposals of members for new TeX software, if there are some. Besides all this, DANTE e.V. cooperates with other related national and international TeX groups.

The Debian Project is an association of individuals who have made common cause to create a free operating system. This operating system that we have created is called Debian.

An operating system is the set of basic programs and utilities that make your computer run. At the core of an operating system is the kernel. The kernel is the most fundamental program on the computer and does all the basic housekeeping and lets you start other programs.

Debian systems currently use the Linux kernel or the FreeBSD kernel. Linux is a piece of software started by Linus Torvalds and supported by thousands of programmers worldwide. FreeBSD is an operating system including a kernel and other software.

However, work is in progress to provide Debian for other kernels, primarily for the Hurd. The Hurd is a collection of servers that run on top of a microkernel (such as Mach) to implement different features. The Hurd is free software produced by the GNU project.

A large part of the basic tools that fill out the operating system come from the GNU project; hence the names: GNU/Linux, GNU/kFreeBSD and GNU/Hurd. These tools are also free.

Of course, the thing that people want is application software: programs to help them get what they want to do done, from editing documents to running a business to playing games to writing more software. Debian comes with over 37500 packages (precompiled software that is bundled up in a nice format for easy installation on your machine) — all of it free.

It's a bit like a tower. At the base is the kernel. On top of that are all the basic tools. Next is all the software that you run on the computer. At the top of the tower is Debian — carefully organizing and fitting everything so it all works together.

Geany is a small and lightweight Integrated Development Environment. It was developed to provide a small and fast IDE, which has only a few dependencies from other packages. Another goal was to be as independent as possible from a special Desktop Environment - Geany only requires the GTK2 runtime libraries.

The developers continously try to add new cool and useful features while keeping the core clean and fast.

Mageia is a linux distribution originally forked from Mandriva Linux in September 2010.

The fork became neccessary for various reasons, the biggest one being independent from the Mandriva company located in France.

Mageia did release its first version in June2011 and the second one in May 2012.

Mageia 3 is planned to be released on April 2nd, 2013, so it should be here for Linuxtag (even taking into account, it might not be released on time).

The Mageia project is a 100% community project without any commercial bonds. The project is supported by the Mageia.Org association, a non-for-profit organization registered in Paris, France.

At the moment, we have about 250 contributors, most of them packagers, but many developers, translators, artists and so on as well.

Midori is a lightweight WebKit and GTK+ web browser. Features include private browsing, Adblock and download managers. It's popular on Xfce and Elementary, but also used on Windows, kiosk systems and many mobile devices.

Ever since its foundation the association sidux e.V. has been dedicated to the promotion of free and open source software. With our activities we strive to foster the understanding und support for free and open source software in the general public, politics and legislation.

We are operating on a national as well as international level. Our daily work consists of cooperating and networking with institutions and organizations, which support the same or similar goals as sidux e.V. Thus we are currently cooperating with the linux distributionSemplice.

Cooperation works only by providing mutual help. Hence, we are very grateful of the commitment our partners show und we try to give our best to give them something back in return. We believe, that interoperation is the fundamental idea of free software and thatit must be supported to promote the free software movement.

We would like to further strengthen our cooperation with projects like CAcert and hence see FrOSCon as an opportunity to advocate the cooperation with various projects and also try to enter cooperation with other projects. Sphinx is an open source full text search server, designed from the ground up with performance, relevance (aka search quality), and integration simplicity in mind. It's written in C++ and works on Linux (RedHat, Ubuntu, etc), Windows, MacOS, Solaris, FreeBSD, and a few other systems.

Sphinx lets you either batch index and search data stored in an SQL database, NoSQL storage, or just files quickly and easily — or index and search data on the fly, working with Sphinx pretty much as with a database server.

A variety of text processing features enable fine-tuning Sphinx for your particular application requirements, and a number of relevance functions ensures you can tweak search quality as well.

  subtle is a manual tiling window manager with a rather uncommon approach of tiling: Instead of relying on predefined layouts, subtle divides the screen into a grid with customizeable slots (called gravities). For better understanding, the default config uses a 3x3 grid and maps each gravity to one key of the numpad. With those keys, windows can be moved directly to the desired gravity - the same can be done with tagging rules in the config.

Another unique concept is the strict tagging: Unlike other tiling window managers, subtle doesn't allow weak tagging and always maps windows to virtual desktops (called views) with matching tags, regardless of the current active view.
